3.0 DCI, simply the best

"There aren't too many V6 diesel engines about, and having driven this one, we have to wonder why" The problem with being the best is that you're up there for everybody else to shoot at. Therefore it helps to constantly reinvent yourself in order to keep ahead of the chasing pack. Renault knows a thing or two about this process, having produced a number of generations of Espace since its introduction way back in 1984. With each new Espace, Renault has pushed further and further upmarket...

"Renault give the Espace VIP billing, selling it exclusively through their range of Premier Centres" As names go, 'New Espace 2006' may not be the snappiest but at least it's clear what you're getting. At the risk of irking Renault, I'll respectfully ditch that clumsy title and stick to 'Espace'. This latest model is a development of a car that was first launched in Spring 2003, facelifted in early 2005 and now sees yet another and rather more wide-reaching set of nips and tucks. Certai...

3.0 DCI, the last word in family transport

With every successive generation, Renault's Espace has become bigger, slicker and more sophisticated, Scenic and Grand Scenic models filling the vacuum it left beneath it. The 2002 model fourth generation Espace was a big reach upmarket and whilst Renault realised that sales volumes would never replicate the Espace's glory days of the late eighties, it nevertheless meant that they possessed the MPV that all the rest had to look to in terms of style leadership and prestige. A used Espace lands...

Once upon a time, large families bought an estate car ' not any longer. These days, the thinking father or mother opts for one of the new breed of so-called 'People Carriers', otherwise known in industry-speak as 'MPVs'. If that doesn't ring any bells, the car that invented the concept will; Renault's Espace. Thanks to high-seated van-like designs, cars like this have the capacity to transport between six and eight adults in reasonable comfort, distancing them from estate models with a third ...

, espace: the final frontier
(28/10/2005) by Car and Driving |

So effectively had the Renault Espace cornered the MPV market that for a while it looked as if an 'Espace' was going to become what marketing folk call a 'brand eponym', such as a Hoover, Frisbee, Post-It or Rollerblade. That was before the launch of the Ford Galaxy, which managed to wrest away the No. 1 sales spot from the evergreen French offering. In making the Renault seem expensive, the Ford cleaned up, but buying used can, to a certain extent, be something of a price leveller. When all'...

, family fortunes (23/02/2005) by Car and Driving - Woman's view
The Renault Espace Has Established A Reputation As A Distinctly Superior MPV. Vanessa Hinkley Discovers Why Two things made me deeply suspicious of the Renault Espace. The first was that I don't tend to like driving very large vehicles, accustomed as I am to zipping about town in a supermini. The second is that I don't have a sprawling family with which to fill the seats. Coming a few weeks after having the more amenably sized Scenic in for review, the Espace struck me as being a little...
